I'v been a dish user in the SF bay area for over 3 years. We have rain lots of rain, no problem with the signal. Never lost a frame as far as I can tell. Also have not seen sun spot problems that would be a problem.

The only cloud is that it is not reasonable to send the return signal from the dish jet. That may never be a cost effective solution.

It's also important to point out that these big dishes are NOT providing internet data to cable systems, just video content.

The internet data enters the cable system on the ground via fiber optics which is totally immune to weather, sun spots, and etc...

So you should still get data even when the CNN bird goes down, but you still have to worry about "backhoe fade". <g>
