DAK, I give up. If you meant Abbot then we don't understand each other. Now if you were kidding I would, but your not so I don't. You must have meant AZA as everything in your post says you understand why an acquirer would take a position earlier rather than paying a premium for 100% of the stock. I did mention TMO as company that only did friendly take overs. Having a position in the target gets you in the door. Management has to talk to you. "Friendly" only means whatever terms were proposed were finally agreed on. There are probably few cases of a company that was not seeking to be bought out is delighted that someone else has an interest in them.
