Perhaps, I still don't understand. Nothing is more common than a company interested
in another, acquiring stock in the target. Monsanto/Calgene, DuPont/Pioneer. These
were friendly mergers. The existence of stock ownership of one company by another is
used as a common method to make a first sifting of potential merger partners. The
problem is it may take years before a merger is actually consummated. I mentioned
TMO, which I followed for over 20 years as consistently buying positions in targets and
then selling out if it could not do a friendly merger. Put my parents in they got out at the
high, not because I was smart but because we are all mortal.
