<<The wiring should be fine; our house was built in '67. >>

There was a time in the 60s and 70s when aluminum wiring was used to save money. It was ok as long as the switches and receptacles were aluminum but when used with standard copper switches and receptacles the two metals would start trading electrons in a nasty fashion and after a few years fires would start. Aluminum wiring was discontinued around '79.

The kitchen redo would have been a good time to add circuits. My place was built in '76 and I'm going to add a dedicated circuit for the microwave and one for the convection oven. It's not unusual for me to want to have 3 big pullers sucking the counter top plugins. 20 years ago who would have thought?
