MythMan, Other than why you folks are long gold, I sort of understand everything posted in this thread. I must admit, though, that the American dialect is rather distinct from the BBC dialect that I grew up with and always accepted as the de facto standard (English is my second language). Even after 10 years in the USA, for example, I wonder about the origin of the phrase, "It sucks!" (as sometimes used in this thread), and would appreciate an explanation. TIA! -BGR.
