JBL,

I believe that Americans's mitigated opinion about the outcome of Operation Allied Force partly comes from the fact that the US public opinion has literally been bombarded with the so-called US leadership....
I've noticed that most Americans wouldn't believe that their country was engaged in a military campaign whose leadership, somehow, had to be diluted within a loose alliance such as NATO. And I'm afraid that the US executive would never confess such a geopolitical shakiness.

Your brave media tell you about the ''US Leadership'', the West, our Faithful European Buddies, Ironclad NATO, and Commander-in-Chief Clinton! Sorry guys, that's not the swanky way it works! And Kosovo, as a European theatre was a whole different ballgame than Kuwait.
In short, the US had to CONSULT their shifty European allies this time! No free-wheeling like in the Gulf War! BTW, remember that during the Gulf War, although several hundreds of Soviet military personel remained in Baghdad throughout the war, the US/USSR relations never deteriorated to the brink of a major clash, whereas three weeks ago, Boris Yeltsin was hinting at a possible WWIII.... Indeed, the Gulf War was a picnic compared to the Kosovo crisis.

Dear JBL:

In reading your note, it sure looks like the majority of the public is not enthusiastic or confident about the Kosovo victory.

President Clinton would have been smarter, politically, if he would have taken the safer route and ignored the genocide in Kosovo. President Clinton could have followed the critics, who said that an air attack on Kosovo wouldn't work. President Clinton could have followed the polls. But, instead, President Clinton and the NATO countries followed principle and honor.

Clinton and NATO might have made mistakes, but they can hold their heads up with the honor of their victory for righteousness. This is a great time for the world!

Now onto the difficult challenges in keeping the peace in the Balkans and helping to create an atmosphere of stability and prosperity. It's not going to be easy, but to do nothing would be a crime.

Re: Bob

JB, I would have thought by now that you knew that Bobby can read anything and see only what he wants to see. Then the grandiose words ie: valiant, glorious, etc. come out to try and make his position seem more applicable. His soap box must be the size of the taj mahal.
