Civiliztion is defined as the attainment of cultural and technological development- which usually requires formal education - and certainly requires literacy. Perhaps you should define what you mean by civilization- since you seem to be departing from traditional definitions.

The disconnect I see in the above is to make the leap from civilized societies to civilized individuals. Not comparable imho - each carries a whole different load of implications. And if I may say so - you're trying to exploit the elitist implications of "civilized individuals" to besmirch a discussion about civilized societies - a much less unsavory term if you ask me.

That's what I see - I could be seeing wrong.
