Some of my friends are very generous. They will open their home, kill the fatted calf (or kitty, which ever is handy), and insist on serving me like a king. Once I am there I am like a royal prisoner. They wont let me go home for days and they wont accept anything in return. If, however, the same friends loan me ten dollars, it is an issue between us until it is paid. I feel like I have a tattoo on my forehead saying ten bucks, every time I see them.

I can not explain why cash measures have such an effect on people but I figured that was why that article focused on economic impact of absent fathers. I'm sure the group doing the study was also aware of other factors.
