I'd go crazy if I listen to all these analysts. NO ONE can really predict the future!!! And just like what Mike Dell told CNBC Griffith this morning ... "sub $1000 isn't the only business around". (He also mentioned that he could sell a PC for $899 and still make money). Intel may not be the leading tech company but I like what I read about them everyday! They should change their logo to Intel Everywhere. Linda ********** INTEL: Intel offers PC Camera product to meet consumer demand for basic camera and comms features JUN 22, 1999, M2 Communications - NEW YORK -- To meet growing consumer demand for basic PC cameras and videophone capabilities, Intel today introduced the Intel PC Camera Pack priced at $79 MSRP to help more people begin communicating in exciting new ways. The Intel PC Camera Pack includes a high quality PC camera and easy-to-use Intel Video Phone software as well as the Intel Email Postcard and fun PC camera games. For customers who require more advanced capabilities, such as Web page-building and movie-building and editing, Intel will continue to offer the Intel Create & Share Camera Pack priced at $129 MSRP. "Intel now delivers high quality solutions for consumers who have basic communications needs as well as advanced users who want to both create and communicate," said Don Whiteside, general manager of the Intel Connected Products Division. "We have tailored our products so that consumers have more choice in capabilities and price from the trusted Intel brand." Industry analyst firm Cahner's In-Stat predicts that more than 2.4 million PC cameras will be sold by the end of 1999, and 5 million will be sold by the year 2000. Intel introduced its first PC camera products in September 1997. With growing consumer use of the Internet, e-mail and video phone calls, the products have become popular with families who have far-flung relatives and friends, working parents and spouses who travel, students attending colleges far from home, grandparents who want to "see" their grandchildren more often, and small business owners who want to use the Internet to communicate with clients or remote sites. Intel PC Camera Pack Features Available nationwide at most retail computer stores and online retailers, the Intel PC Camera Pack offers new Video Phone software that allows users to make videophone calls over broadband Internet connections as well as dial-up Internet connections or over regular telephone lines. In addition, a new VGA camera supports high resolution (640 x 480) and high quality images. For consumers who have a Pentium III processor-based PC, the Intel PC Camera Pack is optimized to provide smoother video, faster frame rates and larger video default windows. Other features include the ability to personalize e-mail with video images, snapshots or audio through the Intel Email Postcard. Users can also interact with PC camera games developed by Reality Fusion*. Each Intel PC Camera Pack includes a free ready-to-mail CD that features an extra copy of the videophone software. After sending the CD to a family member or friend, users will have someone to connect with immediately.
