It has little to do with gender equity either, IMO. A single mom is much more likely to go for the alimony and child support (and get screwed over in the process) than a single dad. The single dad is much more likely to put career first and sacrifice quality time with the kids. I haven't researched it but I'll bet there is a whole range of very distinct differences between how single dads go about it than single moms. I don't believe a case could be made that single dads do a great job of it but I do think you would find them at a higher socio-economic status. JMO
