Christine -

<4.1 Y2K Is a Long Term, Not Short Term, Problem. Irrespective of the notion of Y2K being about time, a point in time, or the fixation on the rollover event at midnight December 31, 1999, or even the name 'Year 2000' itself, Y2K computer problems will be causing computer system malfunctions and failures for years into the next decade.

Total agreement!

- David

Christine, John;

I'm a bit taken aback by the lack of comment/concern regarding the IEEE letter. The IEEE is a very credible group, and their letter was disturbing, to say the least, especially the paragraph 4.1 that Christine reproduced. (Very similar to Ed Yourdon's "death by a thousand cuts" message.) Maybe it's just old hat to a thread of doombrooders? <g>

Still looking for a credible reference re embedded chips and the oil industry....

>> Hey, they finally convinced me that passing the McCain bill is a good idea (are you listening Ken?)

Listening, yes, but I haven't been frequenting this site all that often, so I most likely miss any questions or comments tossed my way unless they are addressed to me directly. :-) Having said that, I am indeed pleased to see you cross over to the dark side. ggg.

I received the IEEE comment via ANSI, but haven't had time to read it. Too busy trying to beat back the bloated egos of certain IT industry lobbyists who can't resist the siren song of the White House, and hence, they keep getting sucked into the Admin/trail lawyer strategy of trying to divide and conquer by splitting off the IT community from the rest of the Year 2000 Coalition. Grrrrrr....!
