1999--A lot of changes have taken place in the
telecom market in China in the past year and more

reorganizations are in the process: the breakup of China Telecom into four
operating companies, the transfer of CDMA Great Wall Networks and Guoxin
Paging Company to China Unicom, the granting of a CDMA license to China
Unicom, the trial of IP telephony services by China Telecom, China Unicom
and Ji Tong in over 20 major Chinese cities and the formation of a new
telecom service provider formed by the Ministry of Railways, Chinese
Academy of Sciences, the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television
and Shanghai Municipal Government.

The conference covered all these changes, their impact on foreign companies,
and a wide array of topics related to the telecom market in China - new
telecom policy and regulations, telecom services market and the WTO,
telecom investment financing models, IP phone and fax regulations, the
Internet, fiber optics and optical networking, switching, wireless, mobile
satellite, VSAT, and other technologies. A total of 27 speakers made
presentations on various aspects of the telecom market in China.
