Does anybody know what the bandwidth will be with Qualcom's PdQ
(Palm + CDMA wireless access)?

Thanks,
-Nat

Bob,
Have you looked at MCOM (Metricom), the company Paul Allen and MCI just agreed to fund. If I understand their wireless model, it's something like a cellphone, lowpower repeaters on poles with wireless devices switching repeaters as they move around. If I understand it correctly (And I'm not convinced I do), it addresses several of the well-known problems with wireless data transmission.
Best,
--Steve

Re:cheap wireless internet devices - not yet.

Sorry sir but I must disagree with you. You may be forgetting about Sun and the new partnership agreement with AOL to build a non-windows operating system with a small foot print.

America Online's Biggest News Ever

With AOL cratering 10 points today the market seemed to miss what may be the biggest announcement in the company's history. Don't worry, there was no news conference or press release on their behalf. I doubt CNBC even linked the story to America Online.

The news was of Sun developing a Java based web browser that can run on virtually any Java capable appliance. With only a 280k footprint (compared to at least 5000k for Microsoft and Netscape's versions) this new piece of software can fit on virtually any appliance. That means that everything from set-top boxes to cell phones may soon run Sun's new browser.

This is one of a number of news release regarding AOL and wireless mobile internet.
