I know there's a holy war going on, I just don't know who's fighting whom.

Jill, it appears to be one of those things where each threader knows who the good guy is as the Mongol hordes encircle the city walls. Little comfort to the unhedged, net longs, I am sure. At least for today.

So, maybe it's a siege and adopting an "I'm going to lay in until you eat all the fodder" school of thought may be one way to starve out the encircling enemy.

What I'd probably do is drill a few deep wells for a "we're here until the lake dries up" water supply, build a few dozen trebuchets, stockpile boulders to push from the castle walls, and then just wait them out while occasionally burning a dead cow that gets thrown over the city walls by the enemy.

Time is on our side and I don't think CMGI is going away, that they will change their business model, or that the markets will in general be unsupportive of their efforts.

But addressing the holding company issue is a big hu-hu and they're going to have to do an acquisition (a real one, that doesn't burn currency) before the end of the summer to quash the IRS's arguement about being a non-operating entity. And I expect a few acquisition efforts, judiciously selected for their ability to fail ("we tried to buy this company but they wouldn't accept our offer") because it builds their case with the IRS.

One day, the Mongols will get hungry and just go away. And that's going to happen sometime this summer, IMO.

But in the meantime, you may wish to consider getting approved for at least selling calls against your long stock.

Best regards,

Mark A. Peterson
