It all depends who's recommendation/responsibility it was to make sure those boxes were patched ... if it was Sun Service then they're to blame for the problems ... unless of course EBAY was too cheap to get top-level Sun support. Part of my initial point was to show that the odd blue screen on a windows NT desktop pales in comparison to having a big piece of iron running your business being t*ts up for a day or so.

Having used the 'installpatch.sh' scripts under Solaris and trying to figure out which patches should be applied at any particular instant of the day I'd say the underlying problem is a poorly organized patch distribution/installation mechanism. On a side note I remember it took around 24 hours to apply all the patches to my Sparc 5 for Solaris 2.4 !!!
