Howdy Pals, what a kwinkydink Blue & Carolyn you're talking about the way companies come off over the phone... I just spent almost 2 hours on the phone looking for someone to set me up with my wireless accessible puterly thingamajig. Got nowhere except maybe someone'll call me back because I left explicit voicemail messages explaining what I want & that I want it put together for me. There's many many computer retail, systems, supplies, techno business integration systems, puterly you name its in the yellow pages around here. Lemmeaskya, What do you think of the stupidity of any company that routes a new incoming sales call automatically through a press 1 for blahblah press 2 for blipblop etc. loop of limbo - sending a possible megabucks customer to a Voice Mail in Their Sales Department??!! I mean, if no one else is THERE, Someone, Anyone, should be manning the extension for Sales, do you think?! Unreal. A couple more salesmen brushed me off after they found out what I want; and cautiously too, like "Who Is This Asking All These Questions?". They all want to know what I want it for, too - as though it's any of their business, but to be friendly I tell them I do office work & I sometimes travel. It was almost as though they were qualifying me for who knows what, marking time to look it up or ask someone else. Then getting back to me only to say they have some of the components but not all of the components and can't even advise me on what kind of cell/digital phone to get that works the best with whatever unit & modem and adapters and software I should be able to put together on my own (Yeah, Right!) Maybe should say the heck with it for now and just get me a stock quotes beeper thingy and be done with it. Yep, it's all a bit weird, makes me wonder what's illusion and what's reality and what's what! But the biggest predictable Load of Ships came from these gals answering the phone who one after another asked me in a snooty tone who do I work for - after I'd already given my name and said I'm my own company - before they'd put me through to the voice mail in the Sales Dept. Yep, that's because my voice is female, that's why. Like they were afraid I'm some babe trying to get through to call one of the guys there, like it's because a woman couldn't possibly be calling about computer business except for a male boss. Aaaaach, what a drag. Well, maybe I'll get a call back tomorrow from one of these messages I left from someone who just set one up for someone else. If not, I'll go and shop around WS like that salesman said Saturday...but possible that's another wild goose chase too, we'll see...but can't go there til next week or later now.
You Know, Seriously, Maybe This Wireless Stuff Is A Hype and a Myth; just ads and stockhype and magazine articles but actually nothing at the end of the trail afterall. There's long lists of wireless ISP Co.'s with shares for sale too; but Where Are The Machines to wirelessly access all these ISPs WITH??!!?
Caveat Emptor, Techriders, Caveat Emptor on the irelessway ocksstay.
I'll keep you posted. Anyone know anything concrete?
Yer pal,
Joan
