Two new additions to S&P 500, not QCOM:
NEWS RELEASES FOR JUNE 1999 STANDARD & POOR'S ANNOUNCES CHANGES IN S&P INDICES New York, N.Y., June 22, 1999 -- Standard & Poor's will make the following changes in the S&P 500, S&P MidCap 400, and S&P SmallCap 600 Indices:
Network Appliance, Inc. (NTAP) will replace Ascend Communications (ASND) in the S&P 500 after the close of trading on Thursday, June 24, 1999. S&P 500 component Lucent Technologies (LU) is acquiring Ascend. The acquisition is still subject to shareholder approval.
Best Buy Co., Inc. (BBY), an S&P MidCap 400 component, will replace Airtouch Communications (ATI) in the S&P 500 after the close of trading on Monday, June 28, 1999. Swift Transportation Co. (SWFT) will replace Best Buy in the S&P MidCap 400 Index. Vodafone Group Plc, a UK company, is acquiring Airtouch. While this transaction is still subject to regulatory approval, Airtouch will be removed from the S&P 500 on June 28.
Vulcan Materials (VMC), an S&P MidCap 400 component, will replace Provident Companies Inc. (PVT) in the S&P 500 Index after the close of trading on Tuesday, June 29, 1999. Transaction Systems Architects (TSAI) will replace Vulcan Materials in the S&P MidCap 400 Index. S&P 500 component UNUM Corp. (UNM) is acquiring Provident. The transaction is still subject to shareholder and regulatory approvals.
Unitrin, Inc. (UNIT) will replace Unisource Worldwide Inc. (UWW) in the S&P MidCap 400 Index after the close of trading on Friday, June 25, 1999. S&P 500 component Georgia Pacific (GP) is acquiring Unisource Worldwide in a tender offer that expires on that date.
DST Systems Inc. (DST) will replace Aliant Communications (ALNT) in the S&P MidCap 400 Index after the close of trading on a date to be announced. S&P 500 component ALLTEL Corp. (AT) is acquiring Aliant. The transaction is still pending regulatory approval.
United Natural Foods (UNFI) will replace Juno Lighting (JUNO) in the S&P SmallCap 600 Index after the close of trading on Tuesday, June 29, 1999. Fremont Partners is acquiring Juno Lighting. The transaction is subject to shareholder approval.
Atlantic Coast Airlines Holdings, Inc. (ACAI) and Black Box Corp. (BBOX) will replace Norrell Corp. (NRL) and Dialogic Corp. (DLGC) in the S&P SmallCap 600 Index after the close of trading on Friday, July 2, 1999. S&P SmallCap 600 component Interim Services is acquiring Norrell Corp. The transaction is subject to shareholder approval. S&P 500 component Intel Corporation (INTC) is acquiring Dialogic in a tender offer that expires on that date. Network Appliance designs, manufactures, markets and supports high performance network data storage devices, which provide fast, reliable and cost effective file service for data-intensive network environments. The company, headquartered in Santa Clara, California, will be added to the S&P 500 Computers (Networking) industry group. Best Buy is a specialty retailer of name brand consumer electronics, home office equipment, entertainment software and appliances. The company, headquartered in Eden Prairie, Minnesota, will be added to the S&P 500 Retail (Computers & Electronics) industry group.
Swift Transportation is the holding company for Swift Transportation Co. Inc., a truckload carrier. The company, headquartered in Phoenix, will be added to the S&P MidCap 400 Truckers industry group.
Vulcan Materials is a producer of construction aggregates and chemicals. The company, headquartered in Birmingham, Alabama, will be added to the S&P 500 Construction (Cement & Aggregates) industry group.
Transaction Systems Architects' software facilitates electronic payments by providing consumers and companies access to their money. The company, headquartered in Omaha, Nebraska, will be added to the S&P MidCap 400 Computers (Software & Services) industry group.
Unitrin Inc. is a holding company engaged in the life, health, property and casualty insurance, and thrift and loan businesses. The company, headquartered in Chicago, will be added to the S&P MidCap 400 Insurance (Property/Casualty) industry group.

United Natural Foods is a distributor of natural foods and related products. The company, headquartered in Dayville, Connecticut, will be added to the S&P SmallCap 600 Distributors (Food & Health) industry group.
Atlantic Coast Airlines Holdings, Inc. is the parent of Atlantic Coast Airlines, which operates in the Eastern and Midwestern United States as United Express. The company, headquartered in Dulles, Virginia, will be added to the S&P SmallCap 600 Airlines industry group.
