<<Michael Dell is a Tim Duncan-type, executing so flawlessly that's its almost boring...the fans (Wall Street and I guess some investors) would rather see Latrell Spreewell shoot 6 for 20, but look good doing it...If tennis is your game, look at Pete Sampras.>>

John: Interesting comments...I agree with your quote listed above. I would bet on a "Sampras type of CEO" any day of the week. MSD is actually quite a compelling speaker. I heard him present and answer questions last fall in Chicago. He effectively communicated insights about the DELL model and entertained at the same time -- this was for over 500 business execs at the Economic Club of Chicago Meeting. One of the members my father knows told me that MSD was one of THE BEST speakers they have had in years. I'm sure glad I went to hear him and I met him in person. It's also great to talk to him one on one. CNBC interviews can be difficult when you don't have enough time to really discuss a topic carefully. MSD was consistent with his message today and talked about the 4 major areas of growth for DELL. IMHO, there is no problem at all with that.

Thanks for sharing your insights.

Best Regards,

Scott

Good post John. I agree whole heartedly. Dell has never been Mr. excitement but he has consistently delivered results which speak for themselves. He has a unique business mind which is under appreciated by the high-roller crowd. I particularly like his aversion to un-necessary risk and his focus on profitable activities. Unfortunately, the most profitable pursuits are not necessarily the most glamorous.

There are thousands of arm chair CEO's who have criticized his every move over the years... and they still do... and always will, no matter how successful the company is or becomes.

john...i have no argument with what you say, i concur with what msd states of the future of pc's...they are not going away...but to be "led" into a discussion about selling refurbished pc's via on line auction is beneath a man who wants to be the ceo of a $130b company...the bigger you get, the more impact an astute and politically(market wise)savvy a ceo must become....

does it not become more difficult to act the role of a "fast follower" if you are the leader?????? all of their following has been in the realm of pc's.....why are they not "fast following" in storage, it is not a new concept...it is very viable...

the other variable is siemens/fujitsu and possible entry into the usa market...

john, in my simple view, good assessment

i'd rather listen to a boring man of integrity, than an exciting liar. mms are giving it little support today; but, like Greg stated, it will certainly bounce back in good time
