CORRECTED - Argentine Movicom to spend $500 mln

In BUENOS AIRES item headlined ''Argentine Movicom to spend $500 mln on PCS network,'' please read in paragraph 2
''Mauricio Wior'' instead of ''Mauricio Wier'' (Corrects spelling of last name).

A corrected version changing Wior's name throughout story follows.

BUENOS AIRES, June 22 (Reuters) - Argentine wireless telephone operator Movicom will invest $500 million over the next
three years on its PCS operations in the north and south of the country, the company's president said Tuesday

''Our initial investment is around $500 million over the next three years for the interior region (of Argentina),'' said Mauricio Wior, president of Movicom, which is 65
percent controlled by U.S.-based BellSouth Corp. (NYSE:BLS - news).

Wior told reporters the amount included the $99 million spent by Movicom on two Personal Communications System wireless telephone licenses, one in the north
and one in the south of Argentina, won at a government auction Tuesday.

The PCS system is touted as having a stronger and clear signal than regular cellular phones. It is also expected to form part of the backbone of new telephone
networks after Argentina's partial telecommunications deregulation this October.

Wior said Movicom also plans to spend about $100 million expanding and improving its existing wireless telephone operations in the Buenos Aires region, where it is
the largest player in the area.

He expected Movicom's number of clients to increase by 30 percent this year. It currently has more than one million clients, Wior said.

Movicom's other shareholders are Motorola (NYSE:MOT - news) with 25 percent and Argentina's BGH with 10 percent.
