You have got to be kidding? Altavista has brand name and proprietary technology that has brought it to where it is today, (on top, but not publicly traded.) Why start over (and make a new search engine), when you can buy one and IPO it, saves alot of time and energy. Not to mention the AltaVista name brand. >>>CMGI could build their own portal and/or search engine.<<< What you just said is like Warren Buffet saying, "Well, instead of buying 8% of Coca Cola, Why don't I just go out and reinvent the soft drink. I'll save myself alot of money." DW wants to buy it and invest in it....not create it. time will tell... best F~
