meathead.."who makes all the money..the artist or the record company"

can take that many ways.....intc and msft the record company..dell the artist....

and if intc and msft go in directions different then the pc what studio does dell record in...or do they just keep on releasing "greatest hits"??

you have finally opened your eyes to the weak link in the bto model...the bigger you get, the more subordinate you are to the down stream supply chain, more so if you depend also on r+d from the down stream....

what makes dell unique in the bto model is that they do it without their own r+d...most bto uses r+D and then has downstream primary and backup sources build to their specification. dell morphs itself into whatever they receive.....think it through meat head..think it through!!!

Re: Dell follows Intel and Microsoft. I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Maybe I'm naive but it seems that both INTC and MSFT are testing waters outside of the "pc" space, i.e. Intel in the form of server farms and MSFT's strong push for Windows CE. How can dell follow if these pilot programs ramp into business mainstays? Although it seems unlikely for these cos. to divert focus from the mainstays of hardware/software development for the pc/server space, it seems that both companies are searching for other means of leadership beyond pcs...
