Edamo, where did you get the idea that refurbishing is predicated
on the BTO model? Tell me, how did you come up with this?

Refurbished units dont dilute new sales! They are either sold
as scrap for a loss or sold as refurbished for break even or
a profit. Would you rather a) throw them away b) recoup some
of your money? What is difficult to understand here?

Re: you can't go forward with certain partners if you want to be number one..

Ah, the old school of thinking. I thought you were a fan of innovation? Vertical Integration a new paradigm.
Learn about it.

Re: has dell done any benchmark test with the profusion? has anyone else?? i think cpq 8000 and 8500 had some test reports published today...

Re-read my post... I said when which means the profusion is a POR not a reality today. It doesn't matter how well the 8xxx series performs, CPQ also loses money because they spend heavily on R&D for products where a market barely exists.

What OS's and applications can take advantage of 8way SMP today?

Edamo, loved your response to Mr. Kelly ... I know you understand supply chain management.... I will add a little different perspective on only part one of your note .... specifically how do you refurb product in a BTO model.... I will not say what they are doing but from a few years in the MFG business I would guess that most of the reburb's ...atleast the one sold at the Dell warehouse were "trust and Dust system" ....I would suspect majority never were never opened but returned to the factory .... this is not high profit business but will tell you having spent a few times in the Dell outlet there were not many great deals on the refurbs in comparison.... Dell did move a great number of systems thru their outlet and I suspect will do so with the online sales .... it is a different client ... similar to myself when I was looking there...
