These guys aren't ready yet, ETEL is ??? hmmmmm The big boys are coming, just not ready yet! June 2, 1999 Lucent Technologies and Ascend Communications have announced a commitment to providing interoperability between Lucent's PacketStar Internet Telephony System (ITS) and Ascend's MultiVoice VoIP solution through standards such as the iNOW! Profile and Open Settlement Protocol (OSP). Lucent and Ascend also announced broad support for existing clearinghouse and settlement partners, including GRIC Communications, ISPTel and TransNexus, exchange carriers including ITXC Corp, billing partners, including Lucent's Kenan Systems, MIND CTI Ltd. and Rodopi, and FoIP partners including TGI Technologies Ltd. Lucent and Ascend will provide gateway-to-gateway interoperability between Lucent's PacketStar ITS and Ascend's MAX 6000 and MAX TNT VoIP platforms in Q4 of this year, using the ITU H.323 version 2.0 standard. In addition, gatekeeper and multizone routing capabilities for Lucent's PacketStar ITS gateway, and Ascend's MAX 6000 and MAX TNT Gateway products will be provided by the Ascend MultiVoice Access Manager (MVAM), an H.323-based gatekeeper. The companies' support for the iNOW! Profile will begin early next year. In Q4 of this year, Ascend will support an OSP module, which will be layered on top of the MVAM Applications Programming Interface and will provide an interface to OSP-based clearinghouse and settlement providers. This standard OSP-based interface will operate in a VoIP network environment comprised of Lucent's PacketStar ITS and Ascend's MAX 6000 and MAX TNT Gateways.
