I don't agree that 3Com's modems and NICs are "long written off by everybody." This is still a huge business .. hell, it's even a great business, but not one that will sustain any sort of growth expected of a networker like COMS. It will take a lot of pain, organizational shifting, restructuring, etc., to get that Client Access business down to 25% of total business. In the meantime, COMS does have some good potential in select businesses, but those markets represent a very small portion of COMS' current revenues. Of course this will change, but this is a long haul, which more than likely will see more earnings disappointments along the way. I could be wrong, but this is my opinion on this company/stock.
