Y2K Computer Bug 'Guns, Grub & Gold' Mentality Expected; Corporate Travel Managers Form Working Group
LAFAYETTE HILL, Pa., June 23 /PRNewswire/ -- The Business Travel Coalition (BTC) today announced the formation of a ''Y2K Working Group'' comprising 35 member corporations. The group's focus is narrow: to proactively address Y2K computer bug-related questions and concerns from the perspective of the traveler -- especially the international traveler. The mission of the group is to prepare and share best policies, programs and communications in support of corporate travelers during 2000.
This fall business travelers will likely be inundated with press stories regarding Y2K-caused problems travelers should expect to encounter. BTC Chairman Kevin P. Mitchell said, ''Unfortunately, there will be an apocalyptic element of 'Guns, Grub and Gold' coming across the airwaves that will be unsettling to travelers and their families. BTC has been conducting research and focus groups with Corporate Travel, Human Resource and Information Technology managers regarding the Y2K issue. The Working Group's preliminary report 'Y2K Traveler Support Report' is complete and is designed to serve as a baseline template of ideas.
The report will evolve into a full plan during the balance of 1999 with inputs from the broader business community. Additional points include:
1. Corporate Travel, Security, Human Resources and Information Technology managers are invited to join the Y2K Working Group by contacting BTC at Info@BTC-Online.Com. There is no fee to join the Group, just an expectation that each member will contribute his company's best thinking.
2. BTC will host a national 1 hour tele-conference call Tuesday, August 24th at 11:00 a.m. (ET) for Y2K Working Group members for the purpose of sharing the very best approaches to potential travel problems.
3. Members of the press that would desire a copy of the Y2K Group's initial work product 'Y2K
