Mike,

I would take the download speeds which have been cited by all of these players with a huge grain of salt. The transponders may be rated at 400 Mb/s but that does not begin to address allocations which are entirely dependent on the modalities employed by each design. In any one of a dozen different sharing schemes, for example, where there may be several million users logged on within the footprint of one spot beam, what does this do for the user?

Alright, system capacities have increased since the inception of satellite based Internet systems, and newer, more improved coding and modulation schemes may be used. But have these improvements taken into account (or kept pace with) the growth in the potential number of users who will be accessing these systems with ever increasing demands on bandwidth?

Or, has this sector fallen into the same trap that has befuddled HFC, with respect to refining a model which was designed around the now- apparently-shortsighted parameter demands which were were once assumed to be valid projections during the mid- to even the late- Nineties? Mike? Anyone?

Regards, Frank Coluccio
