AUSTIN, Texas, Jun 23, 1999 (BUSINESS WIRE via COMTEX) -- TanisysTechnology, Inc. (Nasdaq: TNSU), a leading supplier of memory test equipment under its DarkHorse(R) Systems brand, today announced that Celestica Inc. (NYSE:CLS) (TSE:CLS) (M:CLS), a world leader in electronics manufacturing services (EMS) and one of the world's largest suppliers of memory modules, has selected the DarkHorse SIGMA-3(TM) Model 800 as a tester of 800MHz Rambus(R) memory modules. Celestica has placed a Purchase Order to reserve its first Model 800 unit as part of the agreement. Celestica has previously purchased other DarkHorse(R) models for older memory architectures.
"We are delighted with Celestica's choice of our SIGMA-3 Model 800," said Chuck Comiso, Tanisys President and CEO. "This is a major step in that one of the world's largest suppliers of computer memory modules has endorsed our SIGMA-3 tester architecture. This is an especially timely endorsement since most observers consider 800MHz Rambus memory to be the next standard for PCs."
"The SIGMA-3 Model 800 complements Celestica's industry leading test capability by providing Celestica's customers with an expanded, cost competitive array of test options. This is a key milestone in our RIMM Module Implementation Plan," said John Sloan, Celestica vice president, in charge of the Memory Solutions Business Unit. "The other factors we find attractive about the SIGMA-3 Model 800 include lead time, scalability and engineering support."
"Celestica is one of the world's largest manufacturers of electronics so this purchase is very significant," said Sherry Garber of leading market research firm Semico Research. "The DarkHorse tester for 800MHz Rambus memory is a logical choice given its leadership position in affordability, test capability, lead time, and expandability."
The SIGMA-3 Model 800 is the industry's first affordable tester for 800MHz Rambus RIMM(TM) and SO-RIMM(TM) memory modules. Featuring highly accurate testing at full operating speed, the SIGMA-3 Model 800 is the ideal tester for companies which manufacture, market, or integrate the RIMM modules used in next generation computer systems. DarkHorse also provides a full line of automation equipment for depaneling, handling, labeling, and other operations.
