200 Mio $ Upgrade in Denver

AT&T AND DENVER NEAR DEAL - [Rocky Mountain News, 16A.] AT&T and Denver are close to hammering out terms for upgrading a cable television franchise to provide high-speed Internet and local telephone service along with traditional video service. The company and city negotiators on Monday filled in the City Council on details. The franchise is up for renewal and would face voter approval in November.
AT&T plans to spend about $200 million upgrading TCI's equipment to handle two-way communications. Its high-speed Internet service, @Home, is available in some parts of the metro area. Improvements could increase subscription rates by several dollars a month.
