With IDX heading in the direction of the bio-ID authentication markets, there is the potential downside that the company may not concentrate enough time and attention on its ongoing AFIS business that helps pay the bills for everything else. In one way, it is quite understandable that management is moving its internal investments to the area which promises the highest rates of return -- and that isn't the government contract tenprinter business.

The word is IDX has not been upgrading its AFIS technology, and is replacing old line AFIS staff with much younger IDT people. I have no problem with this as long as the new business revenues come on line in time to replace the AFIS revenues that the company may be foregoing, and cash flow isn't significantly interrupted.

We should just keep a weather eye on the AFIS sector to ensure that the company's existing interests are not being seriously threatened.
