Qualcomm Stadium may have a few more weeks of life. What are they gonna do? Flying baseballs are now an environmental hazard?

Padres Stadium Construction Halted by Court, Union-Tribune Says

<from Bloomberg> A San Diego Superior Court judge yesterday ordered construction on the new Padres baseball stadium and adjacent downtown redevelopment halted until an environmental review is complete, the San Diego Union-Tribune reported. The environmental report is expected to be completed by September on the $1 billion project, which includes a new 42,000- seat stadium and a 26-block development of offices, hotels and retail outlets. The court's ruling came in response to a coalition of residents who want the stadium moved a few blocks east to save historic buildings from demolition, the paper said.

Padres' lease at Qualcomm Stadium expires after the 1999 season, and majority owner John Moores has said the team can't survive in San Diego without the new $411 million ballpark.
