Hi Linda and All, here's a few posts from TMF Iomega board that I found interesting. Let's see what we hear from Sheila later on today when she gets back from her visit to PC-Expo. The Zip-CD in a good move, but I think the move in the stock is more due to the future potential of Clik! in laptops and other small computer devices and the music developments using the Liquid Audio Player as related below. This could be a big drive to increase the tie ratio for Zip drive/disks. It is also of interest that Jodie Glore is farming out the Beyond-PC business to "digital intelligence"... less overhead for Iomega and hopefully better results in getting more companies involved with their products, ie. set-top boxes, digital cameras and other imaging devices, as well as portable music players.

Sorry to see several long term holders shaken out last Friday. Rocky must have had a wonderful weekend looking into the mirror and telling himself what a great prognosticator he is! Sure was a relief to see the recent upward activity in the stock. Still holding too many shares, but at least looks like we might have a good second half-year coming up. Iomega needed to cut back on their head count and hopefully got rid of some malcontents and dead wood positions.

Good Luck to you and all the rest of the old Iomega gang. Mel

OK, so my brother Dan and I corralled Jodie Glore at the IOM booth and talked with him for about 1/2 hour. Jim Kelly joined us for the latter part of the conversation.

Clik PC Card - very cool looking mini-drive built by Citizen for Iomega. Comes with a sharp case that holds the drive and a couple of extra disks. Will bundle nicely with laptops and I think it will sell rather well. Glore said there were strong orders. No numbers though, as if I expected any.

He clearly hoped that the incorporation and sale of these cliks would lead others to incorporate clik in other gizmos...once folks had the drives, other products would follow.

Component shortages - he said he was pissed at the problem and that he was going to make damn sure it got fixed.

Clik cameras - Agfa camera is only announced one. We didn't see much enthusiasm from any camera makers at the Expo. Solid state flash seems preferred and the price for that media continues to drop. So I said to Glore....why doesn't IOM make their own branded camera if others won't do it? (I had already been told by others at the booth that this was the subject of an internal debate...they were trying to convince Glore) He said, surprisingly, that a Zipped camera might be a possibility. I noted the rather large size of the camera if they use a Zip, and he said the Mavica was selling well. Well, this was a concept we had talked about with other camera folks at PC Expo back in 1995-1996, but I didn't expect to hear it in 1999 with Clik out. )

Games - he pointed out the Sega deal...nothing else to point out now.

GPS - no enthusiasm for it, as noted by his expressions. Said that a Zip CD might be workable for this, but was not looking at clik.

ZipCD - a commodity product for sure which Iomega will try to distinguish with superior software, and hope that the valuable Iomega name (valuable to consumers, not necessarily to Wall Street) will help carry sales and provide a decent margin.

Glore harped constantly on the fact that he wasn't interested in any product that didn't make money. Currently Zip is making money, and is basically funding everything else.

No Buzz in sight at the crowded IOM booth, and didn't ask about it.

CFO - he couldn't say, but I got the feeling from his comments and the smile on his face that he has found someone he likes, and we may see an announcement very soon on this.

Review of CEO - this was my first meeting with Glore, and he was certainly enthusiastic, but he also danced around many of my questions...he simply didn't answer them directly. He'd make a good politician, just keep smiling and pretend the question is being answered. He has a lot of salesman in him. The lawyer in me wanted to cross-examine him to nail him down to specifics, but I held back. Personally, I prefer the Sierk kind of demeanor, just a straight shooting businessman, but all of this is just an aside...it is results that count and the jury is still out on Glore as he hasn't had time yet to do his thing.

Castlewood booth....no velcro wall for the public to jump on.

ZipCD chocolate givaway - I prefer dark chocolate to milk chocolate, as any decent chocoholic would, and had to settle for milk cholcoate version that they had.

Sony, Sony, wherefore art thou Sony? Memory stick in very ample display, but no 200 meg super floppy being shown. Next projected date: Comdex, 1999.

Overall - hard to get too excited about the company right now. Much depends on the success or failure of clik...so goes clik so goes the company. I certainly wouldn't want to have all of my eggs in this basket, or even a substantial portion of my eggs, but I think it is worth keeping a watch on the company, and if clik works out there may be a decent return on the investment.

Liquid Audio Experiment

This evening, at the office, I purchased & downloaded to a zip disk "Tree House" by Buffalo Tom from www.rock.com

I brought the zip disk home and tried to play it on my computer(which has the regular Liquid Music Player). I do not have the Iomega Version of Liquid Audio at home.

This is the message I got:

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

You are attempting to play a song that was not purchased by you, and a preview clip of the song is not available.

<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

I will now download the Iomega Version of the Liquid Music Player and see what happens. (I suspect I will get the same message.)

Update:

I downloaded the Iomega Version of the Liquid Music Player to my home computer.

When I openned the Liquid Tracks folder in my zip disk and tried to

play "Tree House", I got a pop-up that asked me for the password I used to set up my Liquid Audio account...

I typed in the password and the song played!!

...............

Btw, it seems you can only purchase single tracks from Liquid Audio & rock.com by using a zip disk.
