I do not see Genzyme as an acquisition candidate for a big drug company. Genzyme has a very successful niche strategy.It has unique product without competition which means there would not be much synergy. Thats why I do not believe a merger will happen.
The pharma companies will more likely buy companies with products fitting into their own portfolio and which can be sold through their own salesforce.
If anything, Genzyme should be on the acquisition side itself.
