Web, a bit further speculation.

If this is for real and they at least get a separate independent VALUATION of the MRV division (without actually selling), this is also a positive for the market perception of the entire value of MRVC.

If they DO sell in that price range (which seems reasonable to me), without doing ANYTHING else, just that $700 million in cash on the balance sheet ($600 million + the 100 million they have) would represent about $26 per share.

Anyway you slice it this is a short term positive. This could be VERY interesting. I still don't like it from a long term perspective though.

Perhaps just a separate independent valuation is all they are really after?

i'm certainly not disagreeing with your assessment they are positioning themselves to be priced in a more reasonable manner-- no matter for what reason. this clearly is the line of attempting to be more attuned with shareholder value. of course, this could be accomplished in ways other than selling the entire company...we've discussed the options on the thread many times. at this point, at least they are attempting to do SOMETHING... i think that's about all we can garner from the current facts. One day, maybe sooner than later, we will see MRVC trading at a level more in line with their true "value" (clearly a subjective $ amount)...
