I've seen parts of the Andromeda Strain on tv a dozen times but never the beginning. Where did the stuff come from? Outer space or did the government make it?

Yup I liked Andromeda strain too, same genre. Forbin project is on TV all the time but they renamed it "colossus", its where a military computer takes over the world. What I like about those old films is that they weren't afraid to end on a negative note. Andromeda strain ended positively as I recall but most did not, forbin project ended negatively, same with the original planet of the apes etc.

Now I will see it a second time to attempt forcing myself to take on a different view of the thing. My sons will think I am very cool. "Andromeda Strain" -- nice flick. Anyone here ever see what I think was/is a TV series called "Paradox?"
