Richard Arms came up with the Arms index. It is the TRIN. When CNBC was FNN (that was the good old days), they at first called it the TRIN for Trading Index. However, they decided to change it to Arms out of respect for its developer. I think they still call it the Arms. I always refer to it as the Arms to show my appreciation for Richard Arms too. His index is the single most important number I use. However, I do not always use it in the manner he prescribes.
