NATO's Solana Warns KLA Will Be Disarmed by Force
if Necessary, Paper Says
By Iain Rogers

Hamburg, Germany, June 23 (Bloomberg) -- NATO Secretary
General Javier Solana said international troops will disarm the
Kosovo Liberation Army ''by force if necessary,'' German weekly
newspaper Die Woche reported. Solana said the KLA has a future
role to play in the province, though that role is political and
not military. Solana also said it's important the 3,600 Russian
troops in the 50,000-strong NATO-led security force in Kosovo
accept a unified command structure, Die Woche reported.

The North Atlantic Treaty Organization's commitment to
disband the KLA includes a NATO promise to consider allowing the
rebels to create a provisional army, similar to the U.S. National
Guard, in the province, the New York Times said yesterday.
