Apache Indian. Interesting name, juxtaposing the tribal with the derogatory European erroneous assumption. In any event, your analysis is exceptionally superficial, unless it is a cheap attempt to hype the stock down, in which case it is an exceptionally try.

What will CMGI do with Alta Vista?? Isnt it in the business of selling companies that they take public ?

Yes, and the only solid gold IPO kicking around is AV.

I think CPQ knows that it will screw up the AV IPO (which they have repeatedly promised for years). CPQ does not know how to do that kind of stuff. Add to that the fact that they have no CEO and something has to be done with AV because the world is not going to wait for you.

So who could CPQ go to if they wanted to find a business that knew how to do IPOs and make them work. Brokers? Naw, they launch them and walk away.

CMGI is the arguably the best in the business at this. I would not be surprised if CMGI is buying AV with some of the money that would come from a AV IPO.

Other than that, there are all kinds of things you can do.

It is like asking the question: "If I gave you the one of, if not the, top search engine (with views that put it in the top 10), with features that no one else has, could you do anything with it?". If you said no, then sell all your stock and go get a government job - this market is not for you.

AV brings lots of views to CMGI and they can bundle it in a thousand ways with other ventures. IMHO, the way to go is to IPO AV soon with a lot of fanfare, then make contracts between CMGI businesses to license the engine. There is a lot AV has to offer - they just never had a leader in charge.
