It really depends. Are they perm placements or contract gigs.

Using medium range tech wages

Perm placements in the IT industry will get you from 15-25% of salary offer depending on the vendor and the contract. So, a guy making 60k will net you a ONE TIME fee of 9,000 - 15,000

A contract gig of say, 6 months for the same guy can be much more lucrative. This depends on your margin. for the same guy you are paying $30 an hour you may be charging 60-75. If they work regular hours for 6 months you will bill for 960 hrs (30*960 = 28,800 or 45*960 = 43,200). Of course you need to take out taxes and employer costs but 6 months or better is usually a nice wad. Also, the margin is not always a 100% as this example implies. The higher levels of skills make more and margin % goes down but whenever you make $30-$50 p/hour off of one person the money adds up.

Now, what about overhead? Usually will take around 30 resumes to get one that is a candidate to offer. Usually takes 3-10 candidates to get the one job depending on the skill of your recruiters in picking, screening, and selling.

So, that can take one recruiter 90-300 resumes that must be reviewed and appx 30% of follow-up calls for one placement.

That does not include marketer fees, office help, referal fees, bonuses, and misc....

Done right, the money is incredible. Done poorly and you go out of business... period, very little in between cause you need cash to float salaries
