John, that was a great exchange wasn't it! How's this for irony, they're taking a $9-12 million pre-tax charge for RFID Q499 (and they're very upfront about it), but read footnote 2 on the PR: 2) Other operating expense for the third quarter of 1999 includes a net $13 million loss in the second quarter from the write down and disposal of semiconductor memory operations equipment. micron.com Huh? Is that a typo? Not the charge, but "a net $13 million loss in the second quarter"? If they mentioned this somewhere prior to yesterday, I certainly missed it. And if the "consensus" (which sort of becomes meaningless when you have analysts going out of their way to reiterate their "strong buys" on the eve of the report, but who "chose" not to revise their estimates. IMHO - that's a story that is absolutely crying out to be written) was for break-even and they post -.10, why wouldn't they mention that charge in the first paragraph of the earnings PR? Doesn't save them, but obviously "-.07 excluding charges" is better than -.10 (at least from a PR POV). Good trading, Tom
