Big holder urges Racing Champions consider sale

NEW YORK, June 24 (Reuters) - Private investment firm Tower Hill Holdings Inc., which owns nearly five percent of Racing Champions Corp. (Nasdaq:RACN - news), said Thursday it wants Racing Champions to hire an investment bank and consider selling the company.

Tower Hill's move comes a day after Racing Champions, a maker of motor racing collectibles, said it expects to post a second-quarter loss.

Racing Champions shares were up 5/16 to 7 on Thursday morning on Nasdaq, off a 52-week high of 18-1/4, and just above a low of 6-1/2. Shares fell 60 percent on Wednesday.

''We are disappointed with the action in the stock and think that management should take some action to reverse it,'' said Sean Daly, a spokesman for Tower Hill.

He said Tower Hill wants Racing Champions to find an investment banker to explore strategic alternatives including a Dutch auction or finding a single buyer for the company.

Officials at Racing Champions were not immediately available to comment.
