DOE suggests Greg is wrong. While there was a 41 thousand Bbl change
to the SPR last week according to DOE, totals did not change (due to
accuracy only going to the hundred thousand barrel level). I would
trust DOE SPR level numbers over API numbers (DOE reporting is
mandatory and SPR is under control of DOE). Both DOE and API say
crude stocks went down last week, so Gary's post contradicts both
reports.

Petroleum Stocks Percent Chg from
(Million Barrels) 06/18/99 06/11/99 06/18/98 Prev Wk Yr Ago
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Total Stocks (Excluding SPR) ... 1,069.4 1,073.3 1,090.4 -0.4 -1.9
Crude Oil in SPR (10)........... 573.6 573.6 563.4 0.0 1.8
Total Stocks (Including SPR) ... 1,643.0 1,646.9 1,653.9 -0.2 -0.7

10 Crude oil stocks in the SPR include Non-US stocks held under foreign or
commercial storage agreements.

Re: MRL
Looks tempting to me here, altho I expect negotiations w Exxon will end in a lower dayrate for the new rig than originally contracted.
(I'm thinking that the longer the negotiations drag on, the better for MRL because of improving environment for Drilling. I'm expecting this will Not be settled soon. Months yet to go, imho. 7/15 by no means the end.)
Anyone watching this one closely? Any thoughts?

diana
