Re:"the gov't(DOJ, FTC) will NOT do anything that harms the company's competitive position, in the long run"

Have you heard some of the proposals for penalties from the prosecution side in the Microsoft case???!

In the US Attorney world, the way you make a great big name for yourself is to hang a big cheese, ie CEO, COO, CFO. Do that and your future career is assured. I have seen two cases. In one two lower level guys were given big jail time for not ratting on the CEO (spoiling the opportunity for a pelt for the US Attorney). In another a CEO was given big (wildly disproportionate to the offense) jail time (and no parole) as a pelt for the US Attorney. In one case they wrecked the company in the process. In the other they wounded the company for a couple of years. My faith that "the US will not do anything to harm the US computer industry" is minimal. Both cases were in the Bush years.

WTS: Interesting and what about MSFT or the tobacco companies? If this gov't had its way the Pharmaceuticals would be under a national health program. You must be kidding of course.JFD
