BancBoston Robertson Stephens Reiterates Long-Term Attractive Rating And Lowers Estimates on AMD
PR Newswire - June 24, 1999 11:55

SAN FRANCISCO, June 24 /PRNewswire/ -- The following is being issued by BancBoston Robertson Stephens, a member of the National Association of Securities Dealers, CRD number 41271:

BancBoston Robertson Stephens managing director and senior communications and semiconductor analyst Daniel T. Niles today reiterated his Long-Term Attractive rating and lowered 1999 earnings per share estimates on Advanced Micro Devices (NYSE: AMD). The company is a leading-semiconductor supplier of networking and communications products, embedded processors, FLASH memory, EPROMS and microprocessors.

"We are reiterating our Long-Term Attractive rating and lowering 1999 earnings per share estimates, from ($1.04) to ($3.48), following the company's pre-announcement that second quarter earnings would fall short of our expectations," said Niles. "We have been anticipating a pre-announcement, but this was worse than expected. The operating loss will be about $200 million, with total revenues no more than $600 million.

"The company also formerly announced the August roll-out of Athlon (formerly K7), and expects it to be a major contributor to fourth quarter earnings. Though AMD's processor design is excellent, its execution, especially in manufacturing, has been sporadic," said Niles. "The next six months of execution with Athlon will either make or break AMD, in our view."
