Hi Indio,

What good would a proprietary switch be if it didn't interconnect with the rest if the IP world and the PSTN? As Jim Crowe plainly stated in the CC on Tuesday, L3 is a service Co. and not an equipment vendor. As such, an open standard like the Softswitch becomes more valuable as more and more competitors adopt it. "It's the network, stupid" is the concept you must apply here, the greater the acceptance of the Softswitch, the more "service" L3 can sell.

If your ruminations on XCOM serve the purpose of keeping you on your toes about your holdings, I would say that that is a good thing. What I read about the XCOM purchase was that the purpose was to allow the IP-based L3 network communicate seamlessly with the PSTN. It seems to me we are about to achieve that goal with some very important partners. Frankly, I don't get your point about XCOM being a loser for L3. I think we should just agree to disagree on this one.

Best, Ry
