I guess that a positive spin can be put on anything. CSCO keeps things proprietary to maintain a monopoly in its' space. There is nothing wrong with this. To openly tout open systems in another area means that CSCO wants to try to get into a space where they have limited access and market share. The vendors that have this space under control should do the same thing CSCO does, effectively blocking entrance (or at least slowing it down) or forcing CSCO to adhere to their standards.
