I just checked I-Watch and am surprised by the institutional volume and the amount of institutional support on AMD at the $17 level.

charles,

Re: TSMC and 30 days

Well prototype lots typically come out faster at <1 day/mask layer.

Regular production that I'm familiar with averages 2 days/mask layer.

Remember these CPU's have 6 metal layers so we are talking a whole lot of masking layers.

Perhaps Paul or PB can comment.

Regards,

Kash

Charles - <The only serious difference is in 60 days to wafers out number and I am not sure why you say this. I used to routinely get 30 days from TSMC without needing to pay for it.>

60 is the rule of thumb figure for a 20+ mask layer process and a typically loaded fab. You can expedite select lots in the line, and get turnaround of closer to 20-25 days, but I 'd think you'd have to pay for this from a foundry. How complex was the TSMC process (in mask layers, feature size, etc.) that you are talking about?

Re: "I used to routinely get 30 days from TSMC without needing to pay for it. "

Were you getting a gatearray? That would only need the top metal layers done and hence the faster turnaround.
