Hypothetical Question.
Let's suppose a major toy company or media company makes an offer for THQI, as suggested by Todd Wiener in a recent post. Let's suppose the offer is for $50.00. Since there would probably be no FTC or other regulatory considerations, I assume the share price would immediately move up to near the offer. Would the short interest drive the price significantly higher than the offer? Would this constitute the ultimate short squeeze? How much would the shorts have to pay for their shares? Could they simply buy shares of the acquiring company and cover after the fact, or must all short positions be closed before the deal is consummated?
