The percentage of shares outstanding which changed hands was approximately .75% (that's 3/4 of one percent)!

Interesting statistic. Where'd you find it??

And you're right. It isn't so much having 10% of mutual fund holders going to cash (other assets), but trying to create the circumstance where another 10-20% will buy their positions out.

The 19% correction we had last year was not so much due to investor selling, but a lack of investor buying. Thus, prices were taken to a level where specialists and mmkrs could find an equilibrium, or justify taking on the risk themselves on their books.
