Teflon:

Thanks for the Fool post on MSFT. I have a Marine Corps son, just promoted to Gunnery Sergeant (with 12 years service, ataboyChris!) who has just picked up some reenlistment doreme and wants me to tell him what stock to buy....so I faxed him that post, along with some others on MSFT, QCOM, CSCO, UNPH, and GNET. Time he started making his own decisions. <gg>

Re: DoJ....never should have brought suit in the first place. The complaintants are a bunch of cry babies who want the feds to somehow come to their rescue in the market when the market is clearly delighted with MSFT's products. I cannot imagine the lost productivity the software industry would face if it had to work to a handful of different OS's. What you and I, or the businesses we do business with, would have to pay for applications would be much higher and more bug-prone than it is today with a single standard.

I'm not going to get emotional about it, because I do believe the marketplace itself will protect MSFT since it is actually in it's interest (reasons above) to do so. Further, as TMF Verve points out, MSFT, while focused on the trial issues, is also focused on what it will be doing 5-10 years out. Those who testified against MSFT are going to regret having done so. Softie will never forget. I wonder what the legal minds on the thread might have to say about the issue of AOL's clearly self-serving testimony.
