Excite@Home and Stanford University Among First Area Customers

In the most recent step of the expansion of its GlobeSystem(sm)
network, Teleglobe Communications Corporation today announced the
opening of its corporate sales office in San Francisco to support the
global communications needs of area Carriers, Internet Service
Providers, Business Customers and Content Providers.
Teleglobe also announced the opening of its local Internet access
site, as well as plans to further enhance its San Francisco network
presence by upgrading its current voice switch. Global Internet media
company Excite@Home (NASDAQ:ATHM) and Stanford University are among
the first customers to take advantage of the local direct link to the
company's GlobeSystem worldwide network.
Teleglobe, a North American based carrier with nearly 50 years of
international telecommunications experience, is offering customers in
the region cost-effective services that include U.S. domestic and
international voice services, international toll free services,
calling cards, operator services, Internet access, Asynchronous
Transfer Mode (ATM) services, international private lines and
broadcast transmission.
"Companies demand top quality telecom services at extremely
competitive rates, and Teleglobe is an ideal alternative to the
existing players," said John Cahill, president, Teleglobe USA Inc.,
the U.S. subsidiary of Teleglobe Communications Corporation. "By
establishing itself in the San Francisco metropolitan area, Teleglobe
continues to strengthen its presence in the U.S. telecommunications
market. Through our local Internet switch and upgraded network
facilities, area customers can access the same speed, performance,
reliability and cost-efficiency that our global customers have come to
depend on for decades."
Excite@Home has selected Teleglobe to provide an added 45 Mbps of
capacity to its current network capability, boosting the company's
ability to serve the 16 million monthly customers that use its
Internet portal services. Excite offers consumers and advertisers
comprehensive Internet navigation services with extensive
personalization capabilities.
"Excite@Home is committed to make navigation on the Web easy,
effective and dependable," said Richard Rothschild, manager, network
services, Excite@Home. "Teleglobe's Internet service gives us the high
performance Internet connectivity our business demands, coupled with
superior route reliability and affordability."
Business customers in the greater San Francisco area with
extensive domestic and international communications needs now can
access Teleglobe's full portfolio of business services at rates
significantly lower than the published rates of the big three long
distance service providers
